Hello everyone,

I haven’t done tags on my blog. My online friend, Stephen, put this one up recently on his blog and I really enjoyed reading it, so I thought I’d give it a go! (It was created by Rachel in 2014)

How do you keep track of your TBR pile?

I have a TBR folder on Goodreads…however, I have a major problem with it!! I use Goodreads all the time and my TBR list on it is RIDICULOUS; it’s currently at 1, 269 books!?! I tried to make this more reasonable with a ‘most wanted’ TBR, however, that is currently at 462 books, so that clearly didn’t work!! I really don’t know how people have a short list while still watching and reading so many reviews of great books! If you have your life sorted in this respect, please teach me your ways!!! I also have a shelf in my room with a TBR of physical books, and have several lined up in my Audible, Kindle and Scribd libraries.

Is your TBR mostly print or e-book?

I listen to a lot of my books, so I have multiple audiobooks waiting for me. My goal for this year was to read more physical books, so I do have quite a few on my TBR too.

How do you determine which book from your TBR to read next?

This year I’ve been reading a lot of historical fiction because that is the genre I’m writing at the moment, so I have been generally reaching for those from my TBR. I also have had a few books for uni to read. Otherwise I choose fairly randomly just in terms of my mood and what I’ve heard hyped most recently. I’m terrible at picking up books I’ve had on my TBR for longer than a few months, even if I was really excited to read them at the time!

A book that’s been on your TBR the longest The Twelve (The Passage, #2)

On my Goodreads TBR, the book is The Twelve by Justin Cronin. I really want to get to this because I enjoyed the first book in the series, The Passage, and I’d like to read it before I watch the series. I heard him talk when he came into uni a few years ago and he was really interesting.

A book that you recently added to your TBR The One

The most recent book I’ve added is The One by John Marrs. This is down to Stephen’s interview with John on his blog. Again, I’d like to read this before the Netflix series comes out.

A book on your TBR strictly because of its beautiful cover

Although book covers attract me in bookstores, I wouldn’t put it on my TBR because of that – I’d have to feel that the synopsis or writing would suit my tastes, so I can’t say a book for this question!

A book on your TBR that you NEVER plan on actually reading Biting Anorexia: A Firsthand Account of an Internal War

This is a hard one because I HAVE 1, 269 BOOKS ON MY TBR so who knows??!! But looking at the books I’ve had on there for the longest, I’d say Biting Anorexia by Lucy Howard-Taylor. That’s not because I don’t want to read it – I put it on my TBR to gain a better understanding of the condition because I used to be a nurse, and I still would like to do that – but because I HAVE 1, 269 BOOKS ON MY TBR, it’s probably not something I will actually get to.

An unpublished book on your TBR that you’re excited for

Love Without Borders: How Bold Faith Opens the Door to Embracing the Unexpected

I don’t really put these on my list for some reason, but there is Love Without Borders by Angela Braniff, which comes out next April. I stumbled across Angela’s YouTube channel a few months ago when she and her husband were going through the adoption process for their EIGHTH child. I am very interested in adoption, and though I generally don’t watch family channels because I don’t have kids and therefore don’t gain much from their tips and daily lives, I have enjoyed seeing their experiences in relation to adoption and bringing up so many children, and would like to read about them too.

A book on your TBR that basically everyone has read except you The Song Rising (The Bone Season, #3)

I really want to read The Song Rising by Samantha Shannon, which is the third book in The Bone Season series. I really enjoyed the other books and have heard so many good things about this one, so I must get to it!

A book on your TBR that everyone recommends to you

The Poet X

I’ve heard and read so many positive reviews about The Poet X by Elizabeth Acevedo. I love books that are written in verse and they are relatively hard to come by, so I am really keen to read this one.

A book on your TBR that you’re just dying to read

I really want to get to The Binding by Bridget Collins. The BindingIt’s sitting on my bedside table and I have started it, but my bad habit of starting to read other books at the same time has taken over and I haven’t got far into, even though it sounds right up my alley!

The number of books on your Goodreads TBR shelf

I love that Stephen said that he has ‘a scary total of 158 books’ on his because, as I’ve said, I HAVE 1, 269 BOOKS ON MY TBR!!!

I won’t tag anyone in particular for this, but I recommend you do it because it’s a fun one, and I’d love to read your answers!

I hope the next book you pick from your TBR turns out to be a great one!

1 Comment on The TBR tag

  1. I’m so glad you decided to do this tag, Gem! Having 158 books on my TBR does feel rather daunting to me, so I cannot imagine what it must be like to have 1,269. There really are just too many books to read and not enough time!

Loved all your answers – I may be one of those people to have recommended The Poet X to you – it’s very good and certainly worth a read. I’m planning to start The Binding early in 2020.
