I’ve been so lucky with my reading recently – I have picked up yet another book that has made it onto my favourites list!

This one is The Dream Daughter by Diane Chamberlain, and it is incredible.

Pages: 371
Published: October 2, 2018
Genre: Historical, science and suspense fiction
Medium I consumed it in: Audiobook

This novel follows Caroline Sears in 1970 as she deals with the knowledge that her child has a heart defect that cannot be fixed. She is devasted. She is only 26 years old but has gone through so much already. She is desperate to find a way to save her child. Then her brother-in-law, Hunter, a loving, trustworthy physicist who mysteriously entered her and her sister’s lives a few years before, tells her that there might be.

What he suggests is unfathomable. Caroline does not know how she could ever believe him, or how she could not if it means her baby might live. If she is to do what Hunter is suggesting, she must find strength and courage beyond any she thought she had. She must believe the unbelievable.

There is so much about this book that I do not want to give away with even a hint of a description more than this! I feel you definitely need to go into this one knowing as little as possible. The plot is so incredibly clever and completely hooked me in.

I have not read any other books by Diane Chamberlain before this one (something I will be rectifying as soon as possible!). Her writing is beautiful. The imagery she has created in this novel is so clear and immersive, and I know it will stay in my mind for a long time. And the characters – wow the characters! Talk about multi-layered and complex! They were all so interesting and thoroughly realistic.

To say this book is compelling would be an understatement. About halfway in, my heart was in my mouth! At one point, I had planned to stop reading and do some work. Just as I was about to be productive, something happened in the book and I don’t think I breathed properly for the rest of it!! It is definitely one of those stories that you absolutely can’t read fast enough while simultaneously wanting to slow down so that you don’t have to reach the end of the experience!

Diane Chamberlain has written a book that successfully crosses genres, includes amazing twists and turns, and takes imagination to a whole new level!

I absolutely recommend you read this (and as soon as possible!), and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. I am looking forward to reading this one again one day!

I gave it a definite 5 out 5 stars.
